The Challenge

We fell in love with the perfect location and beautiful setting of this little house overlooking a wooded backyard in Douglas, MI as soon as we saw it. With a tight budget, limited time and vacation rentals in mind, we set about renovating and furnishing this home as expeditiously as possible. We wanted to create a fun, casual atmosphere that was comfortable and relaxing. The floor plan was perfect, but the home was dated and the ceiling was the popcorn finish that everyone hates on the HGTV shows.

The Solution

We refinished the kitchen cabinets, covered the popcorn ceilings in beadboard, ripped out the old carpeting in the bedrooms, refreshed the bathrooms and laundry room, changed the light fixtures and repainted the entire house. We had fun scouring Craigslist and local antique stores for some unique furniture items which were mixed with repurposed furniture pieces from our Chicago home.
