Meet Our TeamWhen you need some guidance…like deciding whether to mix a big bold print fabric with a funky geometric wallpaper….our talented, creative, and friendly interior designers are here to help.
Co-Founder and OwnerJenny’s budding career in interior design developed early. After graduating at the top of her class in Melbourne, Australia, she spent four years in residential design, including two years as a designer of high-end modern custom kitchens for Domus Kitchens. Praise for her work ranged from profiles in design publications to a prestigious design award given by her peers.
Having caught the travel bug that she couldn’t seem to shake off, Jenny decided to move to London in 1998. From there she explored Europe’s rich cultures, histories and architecture while gaining international experience in both commercial and residential design. But no sooner had she left Australia that she met her husband at a train station in Verona. A whirlwind long distance romance ensued before Jenny relocated to Chicago in 2000, her husband’s hometown.
Jenny’s personal design style is vibrant, modern and edgy, though she welcomes the challenge to stray beyond her personal style and enjoys working on projects that lean more transitional and eclectic. She believes that great design should be a collaboration between the client and designer and that the end result should reflect the homeowner’s sense of style. In early 2011, Jenny began the long process of launching a new line of architecturally-inspired bags called Mooya. The bags are available online at www.mooyabags.com, as well as at Urban Source and other specialty retailers.
When not at work, Jenny loves hanging out with her husband and dogs Prince and Albie, going for long walks through Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, honing her painting and sewing skills, cooking, dining out and traveling. She also hopes to find the time to write a novel about her storybook romance!
Elizabeth joined us in 2011, shortly after earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Harrington College. Since then, she has tackled many roles from intern, showroom design consultant, window treatment specialist, to interior designer. Currently, her main role is in the office where she works with Jenny on residential and commercial design projects.
Space planning, furniture schemes, and presentation documents are Elizabeth’s forte. She also enjoys putting together finish schemes — working with different colors, textures, and patterns. Projects have ranged from transitional to modern, but as far as her own style, she’s drawn to the mid-century modern aesthetic.
After work, she loves time at home with her adorable rabbit Mr. Bubbles; as well as cooking, listening to music, or doing arts & crafts. She also appreciates time with family and friends; and taking road trips to explore the great outdoors, new cities, breweries, and restaurants.
Ellie came on board as a design consultant in February 2019. She credits her experience in art and design for her ease in visualizing how certain fabrics, trims and wallpapers will look in a finished project. A stickler for small details as minute as the right gauge on pillow trim, her clients appreciate how all those little considerations add up to a perfect finished project.
Ellie enjoys collaborating with clients but especially likes those this-is-it! moments when a client finds something they absolutely love — especially if they’ve been working together for a while.
Always pursuing creative endeavors, Ellie was a Middle School Fashion Camp Instructor at the Art Institute several years ago. She’s always amazed at kids’ creativity and their lack of being bound by convention. Working with them inspires her to explore more in her own design projects.
Ellie received an Associate Degree in Studio Art from Arizona Western College and a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
When she’s not working with clients, she writes music and regularly performs at open mics around Chicago. Not only is that a great creative outlet, it also helps her meet other artists. She also loves going to the Art Institute and the MCA to draw and people watch.
Athena is our newest team member, joining Urban Source in November 2019 as office manager. Schooled in design, she loves helping clients find the perfect wallpaper or fabric for their projects. And she’s always excited to see the finished results.
Aside from helping clients with their projects, Athena makes sure that everything behind the scenes runs smoothly. She brings project management experience in creative services to her job, formerly managing a social media team for H&M Online and a paint’n’sip studio. Whether a project is complex or simple, she’s quick to assure clients they’ll be taken care of from start to finish.
In her spare time, Athena enjoys cooking, going on adventures with her dog, Henry, rollercoasters, drawing and painting, and discovering hidden gems around the city. She also has a “thing” for plants and coffee mugs. So she can probably help you with your indoor gardening questions as well.
