We’ve been busy here at Urban Source. Check out what we have been up to!
On Tuesday Urban Source’s sister company: Matilda Bag Company took part in the Guerrilla Truck show with our line of bags called Mooya!! Each year the show grows in popularity. Artists and designers transform U-Hauls into DIY showrooms for their latest innovations.
We stationed ourselves right in the middle of the action to demonstrate the versatile nature of our Mooya bags.
Festival go-ers got to see first hand how these versatile bags can tranform into different versions..
Then, on Wednesday, Urban Source hosted our first ever IndieCon event. Both Libby Lowalski (founder of Kova Textiles) and Jon Sherman (founder of Flavor Paper) gave presentations here in the showroom.
Guests were able to mingle and browse our studio of over 26 independent studios.
Libby Kowalski gave a presentation about Kova Textiles. She talked about her inspirations, the engineering behind the intricate weave patterns, and the polymer coated yarn of her own invention. Beyond that, Libby delved deeper into her background in science and art. She talked about her studio practice and what it is like to run a team of talented craftsman and technicians. One of the most exciting parts of her talk was when she let the audience view colorways of her patterns not yet released and encouraged the audience to give her feedback! To learn more about this amazing woman, check out our earlier blog post on Kova!

Next Jon Sherman gave a presentation about his company Flavor Paper. Jon started out his talk by talking about his dynamic backgroud and how he fell into the world of wallpaper. He described the fateful day where, on a whim, he flew to the west coast to save silkscreening equipment from being burned!
From there Jon described his journey from a factory full of broken equipment to the thriving, trend-setting company it is today. Hearing the passion and excitement Jon has for what he does made us fall in love with Flavor Paper all over again!!
We got to hear behind the scenes stories about how certain patterns were made, what it has been like for Jon to collaborate with his famous clientele, and about the Flavor Paper team. One of the most exciting parts of his talk was when Jon gave us a sneak peak into a top secret project that has yet to be announced to the the public. If you missed Indiecon, you will have to wait to hear all about it!

We are pretty excited to keep this momentum going! We have more events in the works, so stay tuned for more opportunities to join in the design fun!
Also, keep an eye out for our next blog post that will be "Meet Flavor Paper" which will feature our interview with the dynamic Jon Sherman!
