Fall is here. As the seasons change outside, it is the perfect time to also refresh your interior space. Switching out things like pillows, artwork, or adding a throw is a great way to make your home feel updated when heading into the fall and winter months. For more daring design lovers, making bigger changes like reupholstering a chair or adding a new area rug can be the perfect way to shift the focus from outside in.
Here at Urban Source we love the fall transition from lightweight cottons and billowy sheers to rich velvets and woven textures. Bright color palettes get exchanged for deeper tones. Metallics have a chance to shine against the darker hues.
We decided to make a fall inspired scheme for a living room. We combined furniture and accessories from some of our favorite retailers and paired them with Urban Source fabrics and materials. It is surprisingly easy to combine store bought pieces with more unique, specialty fabrics and patterns to make a special space for yourself.
+Rudy the Wall Hanging Copper Deer, CB2 -$39.95
Middle Row: +Midcentury Show Wood Upholstered Chair, West Elm- $699 +Brooklyn Leather Loveseat, West Elm - $1,999 +Distressed Murcury Glass Vases, West Elm - $14 - $29 +Modern Weave Handled Basket, West Elm - $79
For flooring we chose a warm mahogany with a wide wood grain pattern. Soften wooden floors by adding a colorful area rug.
To coordinate, we selected an option of a soft neutral cream (Benjamin Moore's Mt. Rushmore Rock) or a vivid, creamy brown (Benjamin Moore's Van Buren Brown).
Dulcie in Mango and Napoleon in Bittersweet
We are in love with plaids as a classic fall pattern. Here we chose one of our favorite plaids, Dulcie, in a color way that pulls in a pumpkin and is offset by an icy blue. We paired this plaid with the GORGEOUS woven texture, Napoleon, in the same pumpkin color mixed with a warm metallic gold. These fabrics would make amazing throw pillows mixed together on the West Elm seating.
Kasuri in Taupe, 02115 in Copper, Tundra in 04, and Melange in 003 Tweed
The next grouping of fabrics could be mixed in the scheme in various ways. Here at Urban Source, everything we fabricate is made to order and will be customized to your space. Therefore, any fabric you select in our showroom can be made into drapery, shades, upholstery, pillows, or even bedding. The materials shown here can be interjected into our fall scheme in so many different ways!
We love the idea of the black and cream pattern, Kasuri, as a flat roman shade to infuse the space with pattern. As an alternative idea, we pulled a soft linen, (top right) 02115 Copper, which would make soft, romantic drapery. Middle left is our Tundra fabric which is a faux leather upholstery fabric. We can envision this fabric constructed into a chic pouf to place next to the coffee table. And last, but not least, is the tweed fabric on the bottom right. Of course, this would make the most cozy throw! Throws are definitely a must-have for any interior in the cooler months!
Wallpaper is another option for bringing in pattern and style. For this space we chose the classic wallpaper 'Woods' for an accent wall. We think this is a great way to bring the outside in!
Let us know what you think of this scheme and the materials we selected for this project. We put together fabric and wallpaper combinations all day long! If you are working on a scheme of your own, feel free to bring in pictures and talk with one of our in-house designers.
