Urban Source began as a partnership of two interior designers from different parts of the world. Sort of a merger of cultures.
Mauritian-born Jenny Rossignuolo, was raised in Australia, and traveled extensively in Europe where she met her Chicago-born husband and ended up here in the Midwest.
Rose Tejeda-Navarre was born in the States to a family from the Dominican Republic. A fast-talking, fiery Latino, Rose drove a forklift truck before finding her passion for design.
The two met in August 2000, when Jenny interviewed with Rose for a position at a Chicago design firm. Jenny was hired, the two bonded instantly and collaborated there for five years before leaving to open their own firm in March, 2005.
Their original goal was to fill a need they had noticed in the Chicago area. Homeowners with a modern aesthetic who wanted to be directly involved in designing their homes had nowhere to turn. If you were looking for hip, modern, high-energy wallpapers and fabrics, there wasn’t much available. So Jenny and Rose opened Urban Source as a walk-in retail studio where Chicago area customers could find a dazzling selection of products for their homes. The selection of wallpapers and fabrics has since developed to include an ever growing range of independent studios from all over the world.
Today, the shop is a fun, inviting, unpretentious studio/showroom where customers can browse and shop, mixing and matching palettes and patterns, to their hearts’ delight. And for those seeking professional advice, the helpful Urban Source staff is always on hand to answer questions and suggest various options. They also offer on-site design services for clients who want more direction or are too busy to do it themselves.
In 2010, Rose decided that it was time to find and pursue her next passion. Jenny is excited about taking the business to the next level as sole proprietor, but will miss Rose’s amazing energy.
